Sew Fun!

So my love for sewing cannot be categorized into normal sewing. I don't just want to do a pattern - they frustrate me! I will not be defeated by them but every now and again I enjoy the things that don't require a pattern, just a little brain power (and a few scrapping tools:))

I made this little shirt for our friend Carter's first birthday party this weekend. It was a cupcake party and we tried to match the colors. Needless to say, I want some of the online fabrics desperately and just know that is an obsession waiting to happen.


Here is the sweet boy in his shirt - looks just like his older brother if you ask me.


And here's the damage caused post-birthday-cake-throwing-on-the-floor episode. He was too cute and really didn't want any - literally tried to dump the huge cupcake onto the floor! Only at age one can you get away with that huh?


Thanks for stopping by - tomorrow is my first day off of work in over a week and boy do I have a "pile" of things to do - not to mention I never told my Dad happy birthday so I better be making up for that with a good gift. see you soon.

What has kept me away you ask?

This kept me away! No it shouldn't have taken this long but having three children home for the summer makes anything take three times as long ( I love them but WOW!)

I have been inspired by all the crafty blogs to see what I could do and here is my first every piece of clothing sewn. Not to brag but I am SUPER proud of me - not that there aren't some ridiculously embarrassing incidents throughout this. I sewed things together wrong, wrongside out and any number of other things - let's just say, my newest and dearest friend is my seam-ripper!

In the end it's cute and Abbi LOVES it! Her exclamation was: "FINALLY, I get to wear a homemade outfit!" I'm gonna run with this train as long as she let's me since we all know that will end soon. Here she is posing - hee hee!

And since I clearly don't know how to do button-holes yet, this pattern called for D-rings - which was great.

Don't Blink - You Might Miss It!

I'm having a Martha Moment - actually it's more like a few weeks - and I hope it lasts longer!

For their first breakfast on the first day of summer: homemade bananas foster french toast! It was messy but YUMMY! Here you can see the evidence (Abbi's new term) of the work involved but man was it good. Still working on how to get the bread "un-mushy" in the middle when using french bread - if you know that trick - let me know! Amy - I'm thinking of you here.

Here is the finished product - not for the Happy Hungry Healthy blog but certainly for the tasty part.

And another "Martha" phase - we are expanding our sewing. By we, I mean me, with a big cheering crowd behind me. Abbi said: "Mama, it doesn't even look homemade!" I told her that was what I was going for - kinda excited about all the endless possibilities for sewing.

Here's a close-up/side view: a tiny little stitching "error" but hoping it isn't noticable unless you are looking for it. I am imagining this with a cute pair of brown cords for the fall - Ahhh!

First "Official" Sewing Project :)

So this is SUPER exciting on many levels. I conquered my fear of re-threading my bobbin! I know that sounds silly to some of you more experienced sewers but it is what has kept me from activly persuing this hobby for some time. Secondly, I was able to make this really great present for a VERY SPECIAL lady in my life. Third, it shows me that I probably could be relatively decent at sewing and then boy my imagination/lists of future projects kicks in - LOOK OUT here I come...hee hee.


Just wanted to share this accomplishment with you all - of course I had to incorporate some scrapbook techniques in the gift giving/packaging process. Thanks for looking!
